U.S. Senate Committees Hold Hearings on the Payment System Data Security

Following the recent high-profile breaches, two Senate Committees held hearings on the topics of data security and data breaches prevention. Witnesses included representatives from the retail, payment and security sectors.

There were discussions on the transition of the U.S. market to EMV (smartcard-based) payment cards, as well as on the necessity for a better collaboration between the industry stakeholders and the government to prevent such breaches in the future.
